At the Northern Lights Catholic District School Board (NHCCSDB) meeting held on Thursday, May 6, 2021, the trustees approved the appointment of a new student trustee for the 2021-2022 school year.

Carine Picard, who will be in 11th grade next year is nominated for a two-year term. She joins Carley Kiiskila who was elected in May 2020 and will serve through June 2022.

Student trustees serve in the same capacity as school trustees; it is an opportunity for youth to take their place as leaders in the school, the board and the community and to be the voice of the student body.

Carine was inspired when the current student counsellor and the cultural animator promoted the program in the classes of La Vérendrye Catholic High School: "I want to have responsibilities, to understand how the Council works; it's like a life lesson, I'm going to learn a lot of things and above all I'm going to be able to give my opinion.

We have already had the pleasure of seeing Carine at work on the stage during the LOL-Mort de rire contests. Smiling, dynamic, practicing different sports and music, Carine likes to go towards others and help find solutions.

"It is with great enthusiasm that we welcome a new student councillor to the Council table. There is no doubt that we will benefit greatly from her enthusiasm and dynamism," said Councillor Sylvie Payeur, Chair of the Aurora Borealis CSDC.
