École catholique Franco-Supérieur is celebrating 45 years in 2024!

The first French school in Thunder Bay opened its’ doors within St. Joseph School in 1979 and changed locations and names several times over the years. It was in 1993 that the school was named "École catholique Franco-Supérieur". The school relocated to its current location in 1997, a pivotal moment as Francophones attained complete autonomy over their French-language schools. Subsequently, in 1998, the Conseil scolaire de district catholique des Aurores boréales was established.

Today, more than 300 students from kindergarten to grade 6 attend École catholique Franco-Supérieur.

"École catholique Franco-Supérieur has been a pioneer in providing French-language education in Thunder Bay," says Claudette Gleeson, chair of the CSDC des Aurores boréales. "The school is deeply rooted in the Thunder Bay community and is a key player in promoting the French language in northwestern Ontario."

"It is thanks to the trust of our families and the commitment of our employees that we can celebrate 45 years of success in the community," says Marie-Claude DeAgazio, principal of École catholique Franco-Supérieur. "We have always prioritized a welcoming, safe, and nurturing environment to promote learning for families in the region."

In honor of its 45th anniversary, École catholique Franco-Supérieur is organizing a multitude of events in May to celebrate with the community!

Families, current and future students, employees, and alumni are invited to the festivities:

  • Soirée Franco-Chic (19 years and older): May 16 for alumni, parents, school and CSDCAB employees.
  • Family Carnival: May 23 for current and future families of the school.
  • Brian St. Pierre Concert : May 31 for students and staff of the school.
