Description (learning methods, topics covered)

Loi Erin
This presentation aims to reinforce understanding of the legal obligations of staff members under the Erin Act, complementing existing requirements related to the prevention and reporting of child sexual abuse. Participants will receive essential information on reporting mechanisms, available counselling services and resources for child victims of sexual abuse, in accordance with section 170.0.1 of the Education Act. The workshop will clarify professional responsibilities and equip staff to intervene appropriately and safely.

4 workshop choices

1- La LIE+

In addition to offering activities focusing on the linguistic elements of the text, La LIE offers avenues for exploring the themes addressed in the texts in greater depth. This workshop will also include a learning and planning session, based on a backward planning approach aligned with curriculum expectations. The aim is to make interactive reading a sustainable, relevant and transferable practice, both in the classroom and beyond.

2- Perspectives autochtones

This workshop will present resources related to the Grades 1-6 Social Studies and Grades 7-8 History curricula. There will also be examples of easily adaptable lesson plans and a variety of teaching resources.

3- Classes tolérantes (tous les niveaux scolaires)

Drawing on the fundamental principles of human rights, equity and inclusive education, this workshop offers an interactive session inviting school staff to reflect collectively on creating discrimination-free learning environments. Participants will explore reflective practices that promote the inclusion of all diversities. Through discussions, collaborative activities and resource sharing, this session aims to build staff capacity to create school environments where everyone feels recognized, respected and valued.

Cognitive bias

The conference provides an introduction to cognitive biases, the mental shortcuts that influence our everyday judgments and decisions. Using concrete examples, the aim is to gain a better understanding of their effects in an educational context, and to explore ways of mitigating them, from a benevolent perspective.

The role of tracking reading and writing progress in a self-regulating education system (Alain Desrochers)

This workshop has four objectives:

  • Review the conditions that enable an education system to self-regulate, and the concept of educational effectiveness.
  • Deepen an essential component of self-regulation, including tracking student progress and the causes and consequences of French reading and writing difficulties.
  • Provide details on the components of the tools used to track student progress in reading and writing and their functions in education.
  • Identify some of the challenges of tracking progress in high school.

The workshop will provide staff with an opportunity to learn and reflect on the expected impact of systematic tracking of student progress in an education system whose mission is to ensure the academic success of all its students.

Enriched writing (Cédrick Jeanpierre)
Whether in the basic sentence or in the essay, in kindergarten or in grade 12e What questions need to be asked in order to convey a clear and precise message to the recipient? How can writing best reflect the student's thinking? This training will get teachers thinking about how to enrich their students' writing.

Transforming the learning experience (school management)
This workshop will introduce you to the nature journaling process and how you can adapt it to all subjects and levels. By following this model, you'll see a transformation in your students, including the development of observation skills, improved writing and drawing abilities, and a greater appreciation of the natural environment. So, let's set an intention and go out together to bring our outdoor curriculum to life, to transform learning and develop essential global skills in a world in transition.

Catholicité - La Croix pédagogique, an essential tool to explore with your students! (school management)

Description (learning methods, topics covered) :

  • The foundations of universal screening for students at risk of literacy difficulties (Alain Desrochers)

This workshop will enable staff to understand the importance of universal screening of students at risk of difficulties in learning to read and write. We place this operation within a broader framework, namely that of regulating the services offered by an educational system, of which the school board is a part.

We will then present a detailed analytical framework for evaluating universal screening tools, examining their structure, possible applications and optimal conditions of use. This framework will be applied concretely to the analysis of the IDAPEL kit, enabling us to identify its strengths and limitations.

The workshop will conclude with a discussion of the essential criteria to consider when choosing a screening kit, and the importance of ongoing training to ensure its effective use by school staff.
