Week of May 5-10, 2019: "Living as joyful disciples".
Each year, the Catholic community in Ontario commits to a week-long celebration of the unique identity and contribution of Catholic education in Ontario.
The 2019 Catholic Education Week theme "Living as Joyful Disciples" suggests using your faith rooted within to live as a joyful disciple. The following biblical quote guides our theme "In him you love without having seen him; in him, without yet seeing him, you put your faith, you exult with joy inexpressible and full of glory. (1 Peter 1, 8)
The activities offered during the week target the 8 expectations and hopes of the Catholic Francophone student exit profile [http://www.opeco.ca/medias/ecole-catholique/profil-eleve.pdf]: a believer, a life learner, a collaborator, a thinker, a communicator, a caring member, a Francophone and a responsible student. Thus, the student is taken on a journey of learning, not only in terms of knowledge and skills, but also in terms of values, attitudes and actions supported by reason and faith.
The activities also address the two generic expectations of the Aménagement linguistique policy that are present in all curriculum documents and at all levels.
- Students will use the French language and all cultural references to express their understanding, synthesize the information communicated to them and use it in different contexts.
- Students will use their oral communication skills in French to explore, identify, organize, and share their own ideas while drawing on their interactions with others.
Throughout the week, the student tries to answer the following question: What actions can I take to open my eyes to the presence of Christ, as the disciples did on the road to Emmaus? This question acts as a common thread throughout the activities. The intended learning outcome of these activities is for the student to understand that their faith brings them joy and happiness. The student is encouraged to take concrete actions that will benefit them. In this way, they will be able to live as joyful disciples.
