First introduced in November 2023, the Conseil scolaire de district catholique des Aurores boréales is proud to share that École secondaire catholique des Satellites has officially welcomed its first cohort of students. Learners within its’ district can now pursue their secondary education in French!

For this first year, grade 9 students who embarked on the adventure are welcomed at École catholique de l’Enfant-Jésus in Dryden. They travel to the school every day, where support staff are present to greet and guide them in their learning. The teacher is present virtually, and students also benefit from courses offered by the Consortium d’apprentissage virtuel de langue française de l’Ontario (CAVLFO).

"It’s a wonderful project! Times are changing, and school is evolving as well. It’s truly a pleasure to contribute to preserving the French language in our remote regions. We will be innovative in offering quality education and an exceptional experience for our students", Éric Gauthier, Principal of École secondaire catholique des Satellites.

Students will have the opportunity to meet periodically for systemic activities with others from across the school board, as well as among themselves for activities specific to their campus. They will also have access to the same well-being support services, authentic learning opportunities, and specialized programs (Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM), Cooperative Education (COOP), and the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP)). Partnerships are being developed to allow students to join sports teams within the community and fulfill the requirements for the “Healthy Active Living” course.

"It’s amazing to see that families have responded to our project! We are meeting a long-awaited need in the Northwest", declared Trustee Claudette Gleeson, Chair of the CSDC des Aurores boréales.
