The Conseil scolaire de district catholique des Aurores boréales (CSCDAB) is seeking a candidate to serve as a volunteer member of its Audit Committee as an independent member for a three (3) year term, with the possibility of extension. The start date is expected as soon as the position is filled.

PLACE AND FREQUENCY OF MEETINGS At the Head Office in Thunder Bay, Ontario or by electronic means. Minimum of three (3) meetings per year, usually on Tuesdays at noon

COUNCIL TERRITORY Thunder Bay, Dryden, Geraldton, Ignace, Longlac, Marathon, Nakina, Red Lake, Terrace Bay

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Audit Committee shall be composed of three (3) trustees and two (2) independent members from the Board's territory. The committee is responsible for evaluating and ensuring the adequacy of internal audit services to the Board. The primary responsibilities are to evaluate:

  • compliance with regulatory requirements, including public accountability
  • Corporate risk management including major corporate risks, including fraud and wrongdoing
  • the management control framework
  • monitoring the implementation of management action plans resulting from internal audit recommendations
  • the results of the activities of external assurance providers such as the external auditor and the Auditor General of Ontario

PROFILE SOUGHT:

  • Have relevant business experience, including accounting or financial management experience, that provides an understanding of the accounting and auditing standards applicable to the Council
  • live within the Council's territory
  • not be an employee or agent of the Council or any other council
  • not have a parent, child or spouse who is an employee or agent of the Council
  • knowledge of French and English, oral and written
  • good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team

Audit committees of French-language school boards in Ontario are structured according to a regional model as delineated by the Ontario Ministry of Education. The Board's committee must comply with Ontario Regulation 361/10.
