Thunder Bay, May 14, 2020 -At the Northern Lights Catholic District School Board (NHCCSDB) meeting held on Thursday, May 7, 2020, the trustees welcomed a new trustee for the Thunder Bay area to their ranks and also approved the appointment of a new student trustee for the 2020-2021 school year.

The new Councillor, Ms. Angèle Desbiens, fills the vacancy left by the departure of Alain Lauzon who resigned in January for professional reasons. Ms. Desbiens is a Project Manager in Immunology at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) and has a degree in Genetics and Biology from the University of Western Ontario. She also understands the perspective of a parent as her two children attend Franco-Superior Catholic School.

"I would like to thank the Trustees for the confidence they have shown in me by giving me the mandate to represent the taxpayers of the Thunder Bay area," said the new Trustee. "I am humbled to accept this mandate and look forward to contributing to the mission of the Board.

New student trustee Carley Kiiskila will be in grade 11 next year and will represent high school students at the board table for the next two years. She takes over from Mariane Trottier who is heading to post-secondary education. Carley is already very excited about this new challenge: "I am looking forward to hearing the Trustees' discussions and being the voice of the students. I am proud to have been awarded this position and will take my responsibilities seriously."

"It is with great enthusiasm that we welcome these two new people to the Council table. There is no doubt that we will benefit greatly from their skills and enthusiasm," said Councillor Sylvie Payeur, Chair of the Aurora Borealis CSDC.

The Conseil scolaire de district catholique des Aurores Boréales covers the entire Northwestern Ontario region and includes nine elementary schools and one secondary school.
