Since opening in 2024, École secondaire catholique des Satellites has continued to grow. It now has three campuses, in Dryden, Nakina, and Sioux Lookout, and continues its mission to provide a comprehensive French-language secondary education to students living outside Thunder Bay, such as Maëlle, for whom French has played an essential role since kindergarten.

Thanks to its hybrid model, the school offers a unique learning experience: theoretical courses are taught in a virtual classroom, while practical learning takes place during educational field trips. As director Éric Gauthier explains, this approach «is like a road map: you start at point A and go to point B, but in a creative way.».

Since the start of the school year, several activities have helped give meaning to learning: participation in the Dagwaagin Fall Festival, Terry Fox Run, educational outing «À toute allure vers l'apprentissage» (Full speed ahead to learning) to Cedar Bay, celebration of the Franco-Ontarian flag, immersion in the marine world for the Canadian Marine Month, culinary activities, podcast recording, not to mention an enriching week in Thunder Bay.

To preserve these memories, the school has set up an activity journal, a tool that Fatima Zohra El Hassi, a member of the teaching team, describes as a window allowing the school community to discover what is happening within the school. .

For this first edition, two students shared their impressions: «I particularly enjoyed the week in Thunder Bay during the science activities at La Vérendrye School. I learned a lot and had a great time with my classmates,» said Maëlle.

Eric shares, «All the activities were interesting, but the cooking class remains my favorite, especially when I made an excellent cheese cracker with my friends.».

Discover all the activities via the link and see you at the next edition!

Anyone interested in the ESC Satellites program is warmly invited to consult the admission requirements  and to communicate with the school administration.

No matter where you live, whether your community already has a campus or not, we want to work with you, parents and families, to consider together what is best for your child. Please feel free to contact the principal to explore the possibilities and offer your child a comprehensive French-language secondary education.
